FAQ

Questions about Demo Disk

A simple guide for developers, players, and community members who want to understand how Demo Disk works.

Overview

Demo Disk is a curated indie game discovery hub.

Demo Disk exists to help indie developers present their projects clearly and connect with people who are curious about discovering games early. It is not a publisher, storefront, funding platform, or guarantee of exposure.

For Developers

What is Demo Disk?

Demo Disk is a developer-first indie game showcase focused on project discovery, thoughtful visibility, and community connection. Developers can submit projects for review, and approved projects may appear on the public site.

Is Demo Disk a publisher?

No. Demo Disk is not a publisher and does not claim ownership, publishing rights, distribution rights, or revenue share from submitted projects. It is a showcase and community discovery platform.

Does it cost money to submit?

No. Demo Disk submissions are currently free. If that ever changes in the future, the submission page and terms will be updated clearly before any paid option is introduced.

Can unfinished games be submitted?

Yes. Demo Disk is designed for projects at different stages, including prototypes, demos, playtest builds, in-development games, and released indie projects. The project should have enough information for players and reviewers to understand what it is.

What kinds of projects are a good fit?

Demo Disk is best suited for independent games, small-team projects, prototypes, demos, experimental games, student projects, and early builds that are ready to be shown thoughtfully. Projects should be presented honestly and should not impersonate another developer, studio, or game.

Submission & Review

What happens after I submit a project?

A Demo Disk admin reviews the submission before it appears publicly. The review process checks that the project information is clear, the links appear appropriate, and the listing fits the purpose of the site.

Why does Demo Disk review links before publishing?

Link review helps protect players, developers, and the site itself. Demo Disk is meant to be a trusted discovery space, so public listings should avoid broken, misleading, unsafe, or unrelated links.

Does approval guarantee promotion?

No. Approval means a project may be listed on Demo Disk. It does not guarantee homepage placement, social media promotion, press coverage, wishlists, sales, or community engagement.

Can my project be declined?

Yes. A submission may be declined if it appears incomplete, misleading, unsafe, spam-like, unrelated to indie games, or not ready for public listing. Demo Disk may also decline projects that create legal, community, or moderation concerns.

Can I update my listing later?

The current version of Demo Disk does not yet include a public self-editing dashboard. For now, updates may need to be handled manually. A future developer account or project management system may be added as the platform grows.

Discord & Community

Do I need Discord to submit?

Discord is recommended but not required unless the submission form specifically asks for it. Connecting Discord can help with developer verification, community roles, and project-related notifications.

What is the Demo Disk Discord for?

The Discord is a community space for developers, players, feedback, project introductions, playtesting interest, and thoughtful indie game discussion. It is not intended to be a spam channel or a place for repeated self-promotion.

What are Linked Roles?

Linked Roles help identify developers whose projects have been reviewed or listed through Demo Disk. If your Discord account is connected during submission and your project is approved, you may be eligible to claim a developer-related role in the Discord community.

Can players contact developers?

Players should use the official links provided by the developer or participate respectfully through the Demo Disk Discord when appropriate. Demo Disk does not guarantee direct contact with any developer.

For Players

Are all listed games released?

No. Some projects may be prototypes, demos, playtest builds, or works in progress. Each listing should indicate the project status so players understand what stage the game is in.

Does Demo Disk sell games?

No. Demo Disk does not sell games directly. If a project has a Steam, itch.io, official site, or other external page, players can follow those links to learn more from the developer or platform.

Are project links reviewed?

Demo Disk reviews submitted links before publishing a listing, but players should still use normal caution when visiting external websites. External platforms and developer pages are outside of Demo Disk’s direct control.
